Custom Arcade Stick: "Berserker Barrage" MvC2 Wolverine Custom
Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 10:45AM On occasion, custom stick builders will commission art from me for their builds (either for their own use or for their customers). One such builder is a gentleman who goes by the name spenzalii at the Shoryuken.com forums. Spenzalii was the first builder who asked me to do art for his custom build, in this case this fine Marvel VS. Capcom 2 stick which he built for a friend.
Built of wood and painted with metallic automotive paint. The main challenge for me was creating a design that would go with the paint while at the same time, relating to the character Wolverine. the result is this piece.
The blue background is actually from some old Street Fighter IV promotional materials. When coloured blue, the piece surprisingly goes well with metallic paint. The central stripe is borrowed from the Sega's Versus City cabinet control panel - the slashes go well with the Wolverine theme. To keep things in the spirit of MvC2, I added some official art from the game's re-release on PSN and XBLA as well as official art of Wolverine from the game (by Joe Vriens).
Here are some more photos (by spenzalii) of the stick. First one up, a shot of it with a Japanese style balltop.
And here's a shot of the internals of the stick.
Features PCBs from both and XBox 360 and PS3 pads for dual console support. The stick is a Sanwa JLW (with bat top) and is matched with what I believe are clear Happ buttons for a unique feel.
Finally, a close up of the "signature" that I used to use to sign my work (as well as the buttons labels spenzalii added). Back then, I was considering branding all my stick art under the "iBUKI DesignWorks" label before eventually settling on D3vlicious.
You can read more about this build at spenzalii's site.
