January Showcase 2011

Here's a new idea I'm trying out so that. In an effort to get more of my stuff out there, I'm starting monthly showcases of the any stick designs and commissions I've done for the month at the end of each month. So here we have the first one ever for January 2011.

January Showcase

As mentioned, these pieces are those that were done mostly in January of this year (2011).  They contain a mix of commissions as well as pieces I've done on my free time. Out of respect for them however, I've withheld the names of my clients.

This Megaman Universe piece was actually done as part of an impromptu tutorial in the SRK forums. It was used to demonstrate how to properly place an image into the TE template without having the buttons cover the focus of the art as well as without deforming it.

This Sakura piece was done for a customer who wanted to use scenes/panels from the Udon comic. A simple New Style piece, it was commissioned together with a bottom panel piece featuring Sakura's rival, Karin.

The matching bottom panel design for the previous Sakura piece, this design puts two pages from the Sakura comic in just about the same layout as they were in the actual book.

Another commission, the client for this one had a bunch of images that they wanted on their stick. All the characters here, save for Cammy are actually appearing in the upcoming Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Collages are quite challenging to do as it's hard to put a group of unrelated images together while trying to find a unifying theme. Somehow, for this one, everything went together quite well, mostly due to plain sex appeal.

Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite animé franchises ever, so it only makes sense that I make on based on the franchise. A full panel design, this was actually the byproduct of an earlier commission that featured the character (Maj. Motoko Kusanagi).

Ranma 1/2 is another favorite animé/manga of mine (probably my favorite of all time).  Now consider the fact that the Versus City control panel is my favorite arcade control panel of all time and it's a mystery why I didn't do this sooner. The "Anything Goes Edition" is a reference to the "Anything Goes School of Martial Arts" that the main character practices in the series.

This is a commission for a Gundam Unicorn based piece featuring the MSN-06S Sinanju, the main enemy mecha in that series. The colour scheme for this piece is inspired by the same mecha.  The client for this was quite satisfied and decided to have another piece commissioned, this time based on the titular mecha of the series.

A companion piece to the previous design, this design differs from that one in that it's not based on the colours of the featured mecha - the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam.  The design features both modes of the Unicorn Gundam. It's regular mode, and the expanded NT-D mode with the glowing red frame and seams.  Another touch is the greek "nu" symbol on the lower right, a reference to the RX-93 Nu Gundam from the prequel to this series.

And that concludes my first monthly showcase. As should be obvious, January 2011 has been a very productive month for me. Here's hoping that this continues on to February as well.
